CURATED COLOR PALETTES
Choosing a color palette for family photos is about more than simply picking outfits—it helps create a beautiful, cohesive look that keeps the focus on your family and the connection between you. Coordinating colors allows everyone to complement one another without looking overly “matched,” while also helping your images feel timeless and polished.
Coordinate, don't match.
Start with one or two colors you love, add complementary neutrals, and then bring in different textures and shades so everyone feels like themselves while still looking beautifully connected.
The goal isn't perfection—it’s creating images that feel natural, intentional, and timeless, so years from now, you’re looking at your family rather than remembering what everyone was wearing.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

neutraLS and light pastels
Spring is all about softness, fresh color, and a little bit of whimsy. For your family photos, I recommend choosing light, airy pastel shades that complement the natural colors of the season without competing with the scenery.
Think soft blush, dusty blue, sage green, creamy ivory, light beige, muted lavender, pale yellow, and soft peach. These colors photograph beautifully in natural light and create a warm, romantic feel that feels effortlessly “spring.”
You don't have to match everyone perfectly! Instead, choose 2–4 complementary colors and mix different shades, textures, and soft patterns throughout your family's outfits. Neutrals like ivory, cream, beige, and light tan make wonderful foundation pieces, while subtle pastels can be added through dresses, sweaters, shirts, or accessories. Stay away from busy prints, big logos, and graphics!

SUMMER SUNshine

Whites, neutrals, and cool light blues
Summer family photos look beautiful with a mix of soft, airy blues and warm neutral tones. This combination creates a relaxed, timeless feel while still giving your family's outfits enough variety and dimension.
Think powder blue, dusty blue, chambray, soft denim, ivory, cream, oatmeal, linen, warm beige, tan, and light camel. Mixing cool blues with warmer neutrals keeps the palette from feeling too matchy-matchy and creates a beautifully balanced look.
The key is to blend cool and warm tones together. For example, one family member might wear a soft blue dress, another cream, someone else warm beige or tan, and another light denim. The colors don't need to match—they simply need to complement one another. Stay away from busy prints, big logos, and graphics!
FALL VIBES
Browns, neutrals, and warm earth tones
Fall family photos are all about warmth, texture, and rich earthy tones. Think cozy sweaters, golden light, changing leaves, and colors that feel naturally connected to the season.
For your family's outfits, consider shades like warm brown, caramel, camel, rust, terracotta, olive, sage, cream, oatmeal, mustard, and deep tan. These colors work beautifully together and photograph especially well against the reds, oranges, and yellows of the fall landscape. Darker colors will give a moodier vibe to your photos where as lighter colors will create an innocence vibe. It just depends on which you'd prefer.
Instead of having everyone wear the same color, choose 3–5 complementary shades and spread them throughout the family. A mixture of lighter neutrals and deeper earth tones creates dimension while keeping the overall look cohesive. Stay away from busy prints, big logos, and graphics!
common questions
01. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR SOMEONE GETS SICK?
I'll monitor the forecast leading up to the session. The final decision to reschedule can be made the night before or morning of the session. If it’s just cloudy or lightly overcast, we may still shoot—those conditions can actually create beautiful, soft light.
If there is heavy rain, thunderstorms, dangerous wind, or other unsafe conditions, we'll reschedule.
If you or someone in your family is sick, please let me know as soon as possible and we’ll find another date.

02. what type of equipment do you use?

I currently shoot with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, paired with a selection of Canon L-series lenses to give me the flexibility to capture everything from intimate portraits to fast-paced sports action.
I also use off-camera flash with a softbox when needed, allowing me to shape and control light when natural conditions aren’t quite enough. Whether we're working with changing weather, challenging lighting, or the soft glow of golden hour, I can adjust my setup to create beautiful, consistent images.
